Development plans

A manager proposes a development plan for a person — courses and tasks with a "why" and due dates; once approved, the person gets it.

What it is

A development plan is 2–5 concrete steps for one person: courses from the catalogue and tasks outside the system (a week with a mentor, supervised practice, an external training). For each step the manager writes why it matters and sets a due date. A plan is there to help, not to grade: it isn't tied to performance reviews.

Who creates and approves it

  • A manager: in My team, expand the person → "Propose a development plan".
  • An admin or training manager: in Users, the person's row → "Development plan". Also when the person has no manager.
  • Managers further up the chain can see the plan but not change it.

While a plan is awaiting approval, the person doesn't see it. You can edit it and save it as a draft. Then either:

  • "Approve and send": the person gets a notification and an email, and the plan's courses become their required courses with the steps' due dates. They show in "My day", reminders and the "Required training" report.
  • "Decline": with a reason the person doesn't see.

A person can have only one open plan.

While the plan is active

  • Course steps count themselves once the course is complete.
  • The person ticks tasks as done, and the manager confirms them ("The person marked as done" → "Confirm").
  • The person can add their own goal: it appears in the plan straight away, and the manager is notified.
  • The person and the manager can leave comments.
  • Steps can be changed. A course taken out of the plan is removed only if the person hasn't started it: no progress is lost.

Closing a plan

On the review date (30 days after approval by default) click "Close plan" and pick "Done" or "Not done" with a short summary. The person will see it. "Cancel plan" if it no longer makes sense; courses from the plan that weren't started are removed.

For the person

An approved plan is in My learning → the My development tab: the manager's message, the steps with their reasons and due dates, progress, comments and earlier plans.

Every action on plans goes to the audit log, and plans are part of the organization's data export.
